KB1133: Localization guide for Print2PDF 8

Print2PDF 8 has already been translated into the following languages:

  • English
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • French
  • German
  • Hungarian
  • Portuguese,
  • Spanish (Mexico)
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Turkish

Follow these instructions to produce a localized interface in your native language. The English resource should always be used as the basis for a new language. The default location of the English language file is:

%ProgramFiles/Software602/Print2PDF/Lang/en-US.lng

First, copy the above file to a new file:

%ProgramFiles/Software602/Print2PDF/Lang/xx-YY.lng

xx = Language (e.g. en = English, es = Spanish, fr = French and so on.)
YY = Location (e.g. US = United States, MX = Mexico, CA = Canada and so on.)

You can find information regarding language codes including a list of language codes here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IETF_language_tag
http://www.w3.org/International/articles/language-tags/Overview.en.php

Now, follow these steps:

  1. Open the new xx-YY.lng file in your favorite plain-text editor (e.g. Notepad) and translate all the strings in this file into your native language.

    NOTE #1: Do not remove variables from certain string (e.g. %s, %d, etc.)

    NOTE #2: Only translate variables in the format VARIABLE_NAME=<string>

    NOTE #3: Lines that start with # are used for comments
  2. Make sure you change the below variables:

    Lang_name=your language name as it will appear in the language list in the Print2PDF Configuration application. Example:

    Lang_name=English

    Lang_code=the name of the laungage file you are editing without the extension. Example:

    Lang_code=en-US

  3. Save the edited file.

The above instructions will only localize the local installation. If you wish to use your new language file, you will need to open the Print2PDF Configuration application, select the new language and click OK.
