crash
Posted by  Bill Gros  on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at 8:06:40 AM (EST)
Hi,
realy don't understand what append !
I'm using ls602 since 6 month without any pb (on a Win2000 server).
Recently, reinstall my system and get the latest version (build 2003.0.03.0609).
2 weeks without any pb and sudently, ls602 stop every 7 or 8 hours.
No messages, no log, not a "clean" application shootdown, just disappear (I'm not using the service to see the log).
I don't remember install any new application, just configure new firewall entries, but I try to remove it, no effect...
I'd stop the fax server, no effect ...
Any suggestion ?
Maybe a windows update cause this crash ?
I try to log firewall ...

Check your application and/or system log in Windows. Your LS log files are going to be pretty useless in this case, but your application log should tell you why it shut down.

Nothing in my log, but thanx, now, I log process and system events.
Waiting for the next crash ...

What all do you have running in the background (including services)? How much RAM do you have?

When a program crashes, 90% of the time, it's a memory issue. You may want to try closing down everything except what is required by LS and Windows and try again.

all sevices (apache, MySQL, filezilla ...) stopped ... crash again.
No memory pb (144Mo in use for 384Mo of physical memory (+512 swap)).
Just 2 point of my config :
- Terminal Server is activate on administration mode (before, I had it but in application server mode)
- I have an horrible IIssrv process running (???).
It's probably this process that cause crash but IIs isn't installed on my server, and LS602 is not configurate as HTTP Server, it's only my POP/SMTP and Firewall.
Try to modify windows install to remove IIs ...

Terminal services is evil when it comes to LAN Suite. I'd try turning it off or moving it to a computer that isn't running terminal services.

I'd try to remove TSE today.
I finaly have a "real" crash with this message () from C++ Debug Library : Debug Error ):
DAMAGE: after Normal block (#35) at 0x01A53A00
and an other just after(from LAN Suite) :
External exception 80000003.

But this crach was appended when I was trying to close normaly.

I don't use TSE and IIs so I'm going to remove this two bombs !

Thanks

Finaly, I restart services without crash ls602 ...
The only difference is Emule, that I stop on the LAN, and the windows update service, now configured as manual.
I remove TSE and IIs (video streaming service was activated) and restart emule.
No crash ...
So, it was probably windows update that crash the system, but I'm not sure ...
