Open proxy?
Posted by  Peter Maydew  on Sunday, July 06, 2003 at 11:54:21 AM (EST)
When I attempt to log on to an IRC server, I get booted off with a message such as
"Open wingate/socks proxy" or
"Unsecured socks5".

If I shut down LANsuite first, it's all right. What can I do to fix this?

It sounds like they require you to use a username and password on your proxy. Check the "Authentication required" option on your proxy tab in LS.

You'll need to specify your LS username and password on all your socks based apps.

Thanks! Sorry it took me awhile to get around to that.

The authentication checkbox seems to apply only to the HTTP proxy. I still get booted off, even with authentication enabled.

Is it possible to secure the winsock proxy in some way? It seems a bit risky running an open proxy in that way.
