You likely could of got a lot of virus laden 'spam' email. That is the file location where my incoming email is stored, until it is sorted and sent to the various email accounts that are set up.

When your virus checker found the infected email, it quartined, or delected the neccessary email file. So basicly it is the email virus checker doing its job and finding virus infected email.

This is getting silly.....

But what exactly does io\internet do?

It is the directory where your mail is deposited when it arrives. When mail comes into the mail server, the server needs someplace to hold the mail. When you use your mail client to sign in and retrieve any mail that you might have, it is this 'io/internet' directory that the mail server gets the mail from to return to your mail client.

To restate it, 'io/internet' is your
email servers holding tank, until the mail can be delivered to the user.

But where is the mboxes than for?

Okay, so i tried to keep it a bit to simple. The directory is the initial holding box before it is sorted into the users mail boxes.

The mail arrives, and is put into the 'io/internet' folder. Then the mail server looks at the newly arrived to see which user it belongs too, and runs the anti-virus agaisnt the email.

If it is virus free it is moved from this directory into the users mail box. If a virus is found, the mail server follows the procedures you have set up to handle the virus.
