DNS forwardin Problems !!!!!

ello

i am having problems with Dns
on my client machine [ Laptop ]
i cannot ping the outside world

when i ping in command - ms-dos

c:\Ping www.google.com

i keep geting Request Timed Out

Main Pc : 1.0.0.1
client : 1.0.0.2

i have config all network opions to
direct to 1.0.0.1

both machines can see each other and ping each other but when i try to ping the outside world i get request timed out issue.

- i have check all possables options

Main Machine & Client Machine

- Win xp pro = Main Machine
- win 98 se = Client Machine

I'm thinking this has to be a problem with your IP address. Try changing it to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 and see if that helps.

By the way, the fact that you're getting DNS resolution indicates the DNS forwarding is working correctly. You'd get an error saying the host could not be resolved if you were having DNS problems.

There are so many variables in DNS setup. The first thing you should do, BTW, is to use proper class IPs like 192.168.0.x

The best solution that I have found is to install Bind-PE on the machine running LS. Then, indicate the IP of that machine as the DNS for all clients on the network.

Bind-PE is free at ntcanuck.com. It's also nitwit proof and, in my case, considerably faster than my ISP's DNS particularly on RDNS which is done on every incoming email.
