SMTP Sockets Closing After Use
Posted by  John Vicca  on Sunday, April 06, 2003 at 9:11:06 AM (EST)
Using LS2002 (5 user free) on NT4 Server (SP6). POP3 collection is working fine but can't get SMTP to operate. Can send 1 msg before SMTP Socket apparently closes. Cannot fathom this problem out - can someone please give some guidance?

Look under "advanced sending parameters" on the SMTP tab.

Increase the number of concurrent connection to around 50, this can improve the perfromance. Of course, if you are on a dial up connection this will do you little good.

Thanks for the suggestion - gave it a go but it made absolutely no difference.

Forgot to mention in the original post that this problem has only occurred after upgrading from LS2000.

Think I might have to revert.

Forgot to mention (in case it is relevant - although I think it unlikely) that it is a Cable Permanent Broadband connection.

Umm.. So you're complaining that LAN Suite opens a connection, sends a message, then closes the connection. Then when it goes to message 2, it establishes a connection, sends a message, then closes the connection?

That's the way it's supposed to work.

Er no Robert - if you read the log - it opens a connection - sends the first message and then refuses to open any more connections saying that the socket is closed - so I am restricted to sending 1 message each time I boot the server! (ie I cannot get another connection to open without a reboot).
