DOes anyone know how to arcieve messages, back them up, and then be able to search through them or look for old emails? Can it be done by the administrator??

Jim,
I have a similar question - how does one restore from an archive?
After logging in as admin, click on Mail Services on the left side, then Archive, then click the Archive Administration button. The strange thing is, the default is that all the mailboxes are checked. So you have to be careful if you want to back up or purge just select users or all of them.
My question is, how can I restore from an archive, especially for just one user? I want to create an archive before the beginning of the year and move it to a different storage media so as to free up space. Do I need to create a seperate backup for each user in order to restore individual users?
