I think you are confusing SSL and digital signatures. In terms of Groupware, SSL is a server technology that encrypts communications between a server and a client. It is used to assure clients that the server is authentic and to encrypt communications between a server (Groupware) and a client (web browser, POP3 client, etc). Digital signatures work in somewhat the same way, but is instead used to "sign" e-mail messages so that the user on the other end is assured that the e-mail message is authentic. It has nothing to do with SSL and a digitally signed e-mail can be sent from Groupware without the need of an SSL certificate. So the real question is what are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to use a digital certificate or use SSL?
