Folder trees Disapear after adding shared folders
Posted by  Andrew Fung  on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 5:53:17 AM (EST)
We are using the shared folders and RSS function in the web mail in Groupware 6 but after last update on the shared folders and RSS feed, the left panel of folder tree under the mail windows disappear complete and now no longer able to see all the folder trees under the mail. No private folder, no shared folder, no RSS. No archive tree. This affect all users also as the shared folders was default set to all users.

Even try to delete the admin did not work as when deleting the user, it require to transfer the shared folders info to another user account. Have alreay put a ticket on this but just wonder if our forum experts will give me good advice. Thanks

I have never experienced this problem and I have added/removed/manipulated about 15 feeds in my own personal account and dozens more for my clients. Maybe the problem is an error in the particular feed. The feed info is probably stored in the database, you could either look there, or I'd pay the money to have the support team walk you through the support process.

Also, I want to point out that the 60 day support policy has been in effect for a couple of years now. It is from the date of purchase, not the date of activation. If you want the problem solved, you pay the money. Microsoft and many other companies do not offer free support in any way, so I don't think it's too much to expect to pay to get a problem resolved.

Thank you Robert, the new Groupware store the files very differently from the old 2004, I try to look into the database but it seems that it pack all current files in one directory according to date. May be have to look into one by one and see which one are those RSS feed file. Do you have any better suggestion?

We use RSS feed also with Chinese characters, it has works work a few days and I try to change the setting on how long the RSS feed will be stored. May be I set 30 days of old RSS is too much for the database. Then without notice too much about the consequence, users then report all folder tree not available the next day. Don't know if I roll back the Windows XP would help.

I added about a dozen random Chinese feeds I found to the RSS feed list and it seems to be working fine using the default settings. What feeds are you adding so I can try with YOUR feeds? What settings are you using for these feeds?

I don't have a Chinese version of windows, so that might make a difference as well.

Dear Robert,

Thanks for the help. Atthe moment I can not reopen all the RSS feeds. So have to back up all the setting then re-install the whole groupware again.

I think there may be 2 possibilities, either it is the Chinese Windows or may be I have added RSS feeds using 2 separate admin accounts and this caused the confusion.

I have to use the outlook connector to backup all the mails of each user as they already set up subfolders and those subfolders could not be seen again under web mail. This is quite a time consuming job as I have to do it one by one and then back them up to our old 2004 server.

Will report when I reload the program and see if I can find out the cause of the problem.

Dear Robert,

As promised, would like to report back our situation.

1. After re-install GW6, dare not to try multiple RSS feed from different admin login. Can't afford to spend another 2 full day reload whole progra,.
2. Guess problem may be due to Outlook connector. Just notice GW6 upgrade the connector. Even 10 days ago the connector was for GW5 ( from the about box), last week we see different version and it says version 6.31.8-0910292, this product can be used only with connection to Groupware Server 6. Whereas my last connector still refer to GW5 ( installed may be 3 week ago).
3. Every time we update on the share folders, calendars, tasks etc. Need to re-edit again the mailbook property from each user outlook( we use OL2003), even without any change, otherwise the new shared ... will never show up.
4. when adding shared address book, connector start to have strange behavior and OL shutdown very often - may be several times/day ( still try to find out why, may be some addresses are not completed or ???). Will see if we can resolve this issue. Shared address book of LS2004 is much easier to manage.

We also had issues with the folder tree disappearing. This was when we originally migrated from LS2004 to GW6.

On the status bar it said "Error on Page". When we looked at the errors, it had to do with permissions & security. I don't know if this is the same issue you are having, but the fix we used was simple.

Our remote users connect to GW6 by entering www.ouremailserver.com which then forwards the user to www.ourhost.com. Our web host allows us to MASK the page so my users only saw www.ouremailserver.com.

If you are doing the same thing I suggest removing the masking feature. I understand why it doesn't work in IE7 or Firefox. Phishers use this trick to get unsuspecting users to enter information onto what they think is one site when it is actually another.

It worked for us. Good Luck.
