Slow internet connection through the proxy
Posted by  Steve Davison  on Monday, November 05, 2007 at 2:13:01 PM (EST)
Hi everybody,

We have the following issue with lansuite 2004.
1. The proxy server is very slow opening any pages. On the logs shows request time out.
I have clear the cache files and that just speed up the connection a little bit you can hardly notice it. We change the router to check if that was causing a slow connection with no change.
2.Next error getting every couple of seconds are as follows:
SMTP:[3] SMTP connection to 'smtp.saix.net' established.
SMTP:[4] WSASocket Error: Winsock: An existing connection was closed by the remote host.
SMTP:[4] WSASocket Error: Winsock: An existing connection was closed by the remote host.
This above proses repeat self.

Please advise
Thank you.

1. Software proxies are going to be slower than hardware proxies like your router. If you aren't using two network cards (one for incoming and one for outgoing data) then maybe you ought to try that. The bottleneck is probably at your server if you're using 1 network card.

2. The error says the connection was closed by the remote host. That's probably your ISP. You might want to talk to them about it, they will have to tell you why their servers are dropping the connection. It could be something as simple as a bad username or password or some connection throttle on your account.

Hi Robert,

1.The proxy server was never that slow.Yes there are 2 network cards the 10/100 runing to the router and the 1GB card running into the network switch that is also 1GB port.
I did find a couple of trojans on the server that was remove and rescan to make sure it was remove properly from the server.

You may consider proxy in 602LAN SUITE 5.0 Groupware. It has antivirus scanning in it, 2004 did not. It may help you with any future "trojan" issues ;-). Also 10 user Content Filter is now included in basic server.
