PASSWORD PROTECT WWW SERVER
Posted by  Ron Graves  on Wednesday, April 05, 2006 at 10:47:13 AM (EST)
Is there any way to password protect the WWW server so that only our company employees have access? Would like to setup an intranet that only our employess have access to from outside the local LAN.

Thanks

No, there's not a way to password protect anything in lan suite using the http_auth method.

But, you could write a php script and use a session to password protect pages. This is something that isn't supported by software602, but instructions for getting php up and running is in the knowledge base (and they work!).

A simplistic approach is to move the www server to a different port. Eg. 8888. Users would access using www.yourserver.com:8888. This would not password protect and anyone knowing the port is on 8888 could access.
Combined with password protected pages is a better approach than just password alone.
