"Too Many Connections" error
Posted by  Matthew Klein  on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 9:21:51 AM (EST)
For three nights or so 602LAN Suite has crashed. When we return to the office in the morning no one can get there mail until we restart 602LAN. The Log shows "SMTP: Too Many Connections" with some POP3: Too Many Connections" mixed in. Nobody in the office is making those connections because they are happening when no one is here and to the best of my knowledge no one is connecting remotely.
Any ideas? Is possibly an ISP thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Always the possiblitly that one of your workstations has picked up a virus or malware.

But if your look back in your LanSuite log, it should be listing all incoming and outgoing mail connections. Those log entries should tell you the origin of the SMTP/POP3 connections.

Thanks for the reply. Actually the log entries, and there were alot of them, that said "Too Many Connections" had no origin information at all. Really odd. Also, the computers in the office that access the mail server are turned off every night.

Are you collecting mail via POP3 from your ISP? Maybe this is being reported from your ISP, not LS....

Nope. Our ISP is passing all e-mail through to our e-mail server.
