Backups

How are you all doing backups? (you are backing-up, aren't you?)

I'm currently using a homemade batch file with xcopy to another drive. A nice part of this batch is a generated logfile that identifies every file backed up, and beginning/ stop times. It is very easy to compare and determine all files are backed-up.

My problem is scheduling this as an event. Is there a way to stop the LAN Suite server via a command line? Any ideas?

Previously I used Windows backup which generates one huge backup file but I cannot see files backed up or know this will lead to a successful recovery if required.

Thanks, Stew

If you are running as a service, these commands might work. I am running Windows XP, but found referneces on MS web site using them in WIN NT 3.

net start
(Gives a listing of running services)

net start
net stop
(Will start and stop services)

Good idea Russ, I've use Net commands in XP and know they do work.

Running as a service? I currently do not run this way and thought there was something one could not do as a service...

Does anyone recall what that is?

The is no command window. All admin functions have to be down through the web admin interface, or stop the serice and restart as a program to get at functions not available in web admin.

Also you can not back up the spam databases in service mode.
