Windows update V5
Posted by  Luke Mckeon  on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at 12:00:18 AM (EST)
I'm in need of help on how to resolve windows update version 5 (web page client) issues.

I have looked at the microsoft support article on using a proxy with windows update, and followed those instructions. I have also cleared the LAN Suite cache, Internet Explorere cache, and also cleared cookies and objects.

I can load the website fine, but once i start installing updates, after a long period it finally dies and says its unable to install. Even for small 300-400KB updates.

Any help appricated. Thanks in advance.

Did you check out these sites? I switched one of my clients to Proxy from NAT and I get an initialization error. Looking these errors up in Google yeilds these results:

It might also be that Windows Update doesn't support Proxy. I can do it through NAT just fine, but I don't have time to sort through the resolution. Check it out and report back your findings. :)

I have two workstations running Windows XP and with IE set to use the proxy (my third PC which runs Lansuite) and both workstations can run Windows Update withhout problems. So unless they bypass the proxy settings of IE updates seem to work via proxy.
