602 install
Posted by  Mike Schaadt  on Sunday, November 07, 2004 at 2:14:24 PM (EST)
Ok, so I recently did a complete reinstall of Windows XP, and I'm trying to install 602.

However, when I run the installer, I get the following warning: An older version of PC SUITE is already installed on your computer. Do you want to upgrade to the latest version?

picking yes, it allows me to go on until I get an error similar to the previous one with this added on: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
I don't really have a way of uninstalling the older 602 installation, so any help would be appreciated.

I assume since you say you did a reinstall, that you mean you didn't format your computer first. If this is the case, you will need to delete the entire c:\Program Files\Common Files\soft602 folder and the c:\Program Files\Software602 folder and then reinstall. I believe that will take care of it.

Well, I tried it, and that didn't work. I did a search for 602 stuff on my drives, and I have tried removing everything that way. any ideas?

click on the windows start button, then click on "run"

type in "msconfig" and click "OK"

click on the "startup" tab and uncheck the two pdf-related options.

careful using msconfig, cuz you can stuff up the computer.

to any 602 staff: I like the 602 software, but its pervasiveness with the PDF aspects and the 602 album is just too much. you should really make it optional whether all of these 602-related items add themselves to the windows system.
