Lan Suite service crashes
Posted by  Robert Freeborn  on Monday, August 23, 2004 at 3:20:51 PM (EST)
I just upgraded our server from the free 5 user version to the paid 25 user version. Now when I try and access the web admin utility the service crashes. I can restart the service from the Windows services control panel and it appears to run fine until I try to access the web admin utility again. I am still able to administrate the system from the GUI program if I shut down the service first. I donít remember this being a problem prior to the upgrade over the weekend. Has anyone else experienced this problem and how did you fix it?

What does the application or system log file say is the cause of the crash?

The system event log says:

Type: Error
Source: Service Control Manager
Catergory: None
Event ID: 7034

The 602Pro LAN SUITE service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I'm not finding any errors in the other logs that would relate to this.

That doesn't tell me much, so the LS log file should reveal more. You probably have a bad message in there, so I would recommend you make sure you're using the latest build which fixes problems with the server choking on bad messages.

I recently started getting the same problem, for no apperent reason. System Event logs confirm the service has crashed, but the LS logs do not indicate what LS service is crashing. Logs are completely normal and only show LS has restarted. To over come the problem, I have programed the service to automatically resart after a crash via the Service Control Manager.
I expect we will see a few more posts on this matter. The crashes started occuring about the time of LS update release and in my case, continue with the update.
