Orphaned SMTP Send Mail
Posted by  Stew Bottorf  on Thursday, April 22, 2004 at 4:12:22 PM (EST)
Sometimes on the scrolling log I notice an outgoing message that does not send. I suspect a user has entered an incorrect email address and the message keeps trying to send for hours or even days (I am sending direct via SMTP).

Is there a way for the Administrator to locate these messages and "snuff them out?"

Is there a setting for the maximum number of retries before rejecting the message?

I believe I could see orphaned send messages in ProLAN2003 but I have not found a way to do that in this version.

Thanks for any ideas,

Yep, from the console, go to Server and queue management, find the message, click delete, it will remove the message from the queue. Be aware it will NOT send a bounce message. You can adjust the times/retry parameters in the Advanced Sending parameters in the SMTP tab/Advanced Config.

Thanks Robert, that was just what I was looking for.
