Do you have to go through an ISP?
Posted by  Paul Bandas  on Monday, March 29, 2004 at 6:15:29 PM (EST)
I was wondering if you can set-up 602LAN SUITE 2004 with out having an ISP. I am connected with DSL but don't have an ISP and was trying to set this up to act as a mail server for my home network. Any ideas?
Thanks...pb

You are confusing your terminology. The DSL line is your ISP. Look at your bill, there will be a small line to uunet or something like that for 5 bucks. The phone company provides the transport, the isp the net content. Without an ISP you cannot ever surf the net. In order to host your own mail server you must register a name i.e. youname.com, get someone to provide you with DNS support (most likely a dynamic DNS provider like dyndns.org) and off you go. The entire purpose of LS's smtp/pop server is to host your own mail
