What are the advantages of running as a service? The major disadvantages seems to be losing the ability to use Ctrl-F10 regards -pk-

It starts when you boot the machine, nobody has to be logged in. If you run it as a foreground program, you have to log in as a user to start it.

Under XP Pro you also have a number of options of what happens in the event of a crash, including automatically re-starting the service. (Which I get a lot of use out of since LanSuite crashes frequently on my computer)
