Lan Suite Problems - please reply ASAP
Posted by  Terry Allen  on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 2:57:39 AM (EST)
Hi,
For one of our clients, we have been attempting to get Internet Connection sharing working - both machines are running Windows XP (one Pro, not sure about the other).
We have tried Analogx Proxy & CCProxy without success & have moved on to try 602 Lan Suite after having no success with the others, but we have come up against problems.
Our aim for this client is to have the main machine with 2 NIC cards (first NIC card connected to DSL with firewalled Ethernet adapter on 10.0.0.2 address second NIC card in main machine non-firewalled, running 192.168.1.87 address) with DSL connection & shared to a single second machine (Ethernet IP address 192.168.1.22) via 602 Lan Suite for usage of WWW, Email & FTP (not anonymous) access to a remote server on the public internet.
We have been able to get a pair of test machines running on our own network for WWW access only - in attempting to connect to the FTP server, we cannot get a successful connection - all firewall software is turned off for this testing.
We have not as yet tested email access. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are we guessing that 602 Lansuite can indeed fully share all Internet services described above?
Bye for now, Terry Allen

Welcome to the world of proxy. In the proxy world you must force all applications to first connect to the proxy server, then let the proxy handle the trafficing.

Use a FTP app that supports proxy. There are many listed in the LS support page.

FTP Dos: ftp to the proxy server, you will then get prompted for a user in the syntax of user@ftp.site.com

FTP from the LS server (may need the firewall set to LOW). This session will not use the proxy.

Trying to SMTP/POP3 direct to the internet from a LS client will not work either. You can either get LS to collect the mail, or you will need to MAP anther port to the Internet email server and get the LS clients email app to connect to the LS Server on the mapped port. LS proxy will then forwrd the connection to the Internet mail server.

Hi again,
Many thanks for your reply - as I mentioned in my first post, all firewalls were switched off - after numerous attempts, we uninstalled, then reinstalled the lan suite - then it worked first time. Perhaps it was some minor installation glitch.
Bye for now, Terry Allen
