MS WORD incompatible Object "Frame Position"
Posted by  Andrzej Krawczyk  on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at 9:31:44 AM (EST)
Default object (picture) position is "Floating with character". Such pictures in 602Text are displayed in WRONG WAY. MS Word wraps right the characters in the line where picture is inserted AND WRAPS DOWN whole line, so the whole text is
*******
VISIBLE what ******* looks like this line. 602 Text is DRAWING THE PICTURE OVER LINES.
It makes ALL documents incompatible with MS WORD!!!
It is the ONLY reason why we do not use 602 Text in our company.

Did you by chance read the Compatibility gude?

I bet you the reason your word documents are messed up in 602text is because it's generating the frames with a macro. Macros aren't supported by 602Text.

1. I have read compatibility guide first - all "incompatibilities" which are written there are very minor for writing/reading simple documents. Such incompatibility is not meant.
2. Testing of this was done very carefully. NO MACROS, just Insert/Picture and than file name. Not only in MS Word, but also in 2 other doc compatible editors.
3. In fact it is NOT compatibility problem but BUG in 602. 602 reads very well, but displays it wrong. Just write few lines in 602, press ENTER and choose Insert/Picture. Take big one. The picture overlaps previously written text. When you go to proprties - there are the same default settings as in MS Word. But ALL other *.doc processors WRAP lines when Location is: Floating with character. In 602 is no wrapping and you can not change it (same in MS Word).
This are DEFAULT settings, in some procesors THE ONLY POSSIBLE. So everybody around is making such documents with pictures or other objects.
I have a feeling that in 2001 version it was correct.

I have got final explanation of the problem!
In MS Word objects which have position "Floating with character" are treated just like letters with dimentions of the object. So, inserting such object - mostly bigger than single letter - is treated like changing one letter size to very big one. It is obvious in this case that whole line must be shifted down to prevent overwriting lines above and next letter must be after this one.
602 display algorithm takes the width of the picture, but unfortunatelly ignores the height!

My feeling was right!
602Pro PC Suite 2001 displays described pictures exactly like MS WORD (described above). All is OK there!

So - did your quality department test ANY documents having the pictures inserted in the simplest possible way?

Did ANY tester insert ANY picture while testing?

Nobody complains?
None of your users needs pictures? Whatfor than is this option?
